What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is based on the principle that if the structure of the body is not balanced and healthy, then the function is affected. Osteopaths use physical techniques with the aim of -
- increasing the mobility of the joints
- relieving muscle tension
- reducing pain
- enhancing blood supply to tissues
- helping the body to heal
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues working smoothly together. Therefore Osteopaths can help relieve mechanical problems in the body and assist in the recovery of health and wellbeing.
Osteopaths understand that there may be a number of contributing factors to the symptoms you are experiencing. They will therefore evaluate not only the area which is producing the symptoms, but the surrounding areas which may be compensating. In addition, the Osteopath will consider associated issues - such as the impact of previous trauma (physical and emotional), aggravating factors (eg posture, stress), and your family’s medical history.
How do Osteopaths treat?
My aim is to aid recovery back to optimum health using a variety of gentle, non-invasive manual techniques to release tension patterns. Gentle, effective hands-on treatment helps to resolve strains within the body, restoring harmony and balance.
The treatments are tailored to meet a patient’s individual needs. Tanya can also provide advice on posture, stretching and strengthening exercises, relaxation techniques and ergonomics. This further supports your recovery, promotes health and helps to prevent symptoms recurring.
How can Osteopathy help me?
Osteopaths have experience in treating a broad range of complaints, ranging from acute back pain, to everyday joint aches and pains. In addition, Tanya has specialist training in paediatric osteopathy and in the care of women during and after pregnancy.
An Osteopathic case history, assessment and treatment plan is a total body healthcare approach, designed to get to the root cause of your problem. As a result, Osteopathy can address your symptoms and help your body to respond more effectively to whatever challenges you may be facing with your health.

Tanya has provided enormous help to our daughter and both of us, with particular skill demonstrated where a hereditary disability is concerned. She also made a fantastic recommendation to another healthcare professional, which we cannot thank her for enough. We are particularly impressed by the efficacy of Tanya's treatments, while always being so calm, gentle and non-invasive. She is a caring and lovely person and in addition to disability management has helped with muscular-skeletal issues, sinus problems, degenerated joints and much more.
